Barnett
Mark Barnett, when he was head teacher of Westfield School with his Yorkshire Teacher of the Year Award Picture Mark Barnett, of York, who was described as a "legend in the community", died of covid-19 on 1 April, 2020. He had been head teacher of Westfield primary school for seventeen years when he stepped down in 2008 to work for the City of York council as a consultant head teacher. Mark Barnett, then became acting head at Danesgate, the pupils support centre, where he was in charge of behaviour strategies for Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils. Outside of the classroom, he enjoyed spending time in Ghana and helped set up a school there. Cllr Andrew Waller, a school governor at Westfield, said of his former colleague: "He was an inspirational head teacher and legend in the community. Everyone knew Mark and he had a huge amount of respect". Photo and details taken from The Press, York
