The family name, Dightmaker was originally, Digtmaker. Later revised to Dightmaker when the family immigrated to England. David Dightmaker was a son of; Leendert (Leonard) Digtmaker and Rachel, born in Amsterdam, Holland, 1886. He was one of 12 siblings. David Dightmaker arrived in England with his parents and siblings about 1892. Between the years of 1872 - 1893, the family regularly traveled from London to Amsterdam. Most of children were born in the Netherlands, but they married in London, England. Leendert Digtmaker, later to be known as, Leonard Dightmaker, and his family were officially removed from the population register of Amsterdam on February 25, 1893. The parents of Leendert Digtmaker and grandparents of David Dightmaker were; Machiel Digtmaker born in Holland 1816 and Beletje, they had at least 8 children. Except Leendert Digtmaker who immigrated to London with his wife and children, all the descendants of Machiel Digtmaker and descendants of the generations before him perished during the Holocaust.
